After seeing the VW Ameo, a thought suddenly came out of my brain: what if this became RWD?
And then it branched out: since there’s many of this kind of car in other parts of the world, which of them would really be nice to see driven by the rear wheels?
Me? The Toyota Vios.
Here is a fairly competent car that can be spiced up with RWD, even if Toyota doesn’t impart sporting intentions to it.
OK, so FWD is adequate for econo-shitboxes like these, and how profound the changes to the driving will be is still in question, but it will be profound, that much I know.
Of course, we’re talking other countries’ cars, so go answer yours below.

I prefer the Vios to be AWD and delete those tacky skirts and spoiler. Why didn’t they bring that over the US and named it Yaris sedan?

I don’t know about that, that was entirely part of the original Mini's character.

Dacia Duster.

Go research Vauxhall/Opel VX220 and Clio V6.

Or the Clio, as it actually had a RWD version in previous generations.

But that would just add weight and decrease wheel horsepower, so stock from the factory, it would probably be quite slow and not drifty.

How it came out yes, but I’m sure the factory would have figured it out in stock form if they went with a RWD plan. Either way I want one NAOW!

Not overseas, but I’d love a RWD Cobalt SS (turbo).

My brother in law has a Toyota Avanza. I love the thing RWD,Manual,wagon-ish and pretty cheap at $14000 usd.
I would totally rock one of these here.

You missed the point.

The Smart is RWD and that’s hardly brought crowds of enthusiasts banging down their doors.

If BMC didn’t think totally out of the box when designing the Mini, it’d have ended up like this, only smaller.
In other words, it would lack everything that made the Mini great.

The Smart also isn’t a basic, cheap, simple 4-door sedan with a manual and a center of mass low enough to allow spirited cornering at reasonable speeds.

Very few of the vehicles listed here would actually be cheap if sold here.

If you’re talking about the european hot hatch type of cars, yes. If you’re talking about the specially designed for emerging markets type of cars, remember they are exactly the same thing as a Mitsubishi Mirage.

Yeah, thanks?

if there’s a will, there’s a way. I’m glad Mini went the direction they did because it was LEGENDARY. I just think that if they’d done everything they did the same, except in RWD, much more dorifto awesomeness would be had by all:] OG Mini is still ultra champ!

What AWD drive train would fit under there? GMC MINI van? Ford Aerostar? Something from VW themselves?

Suzuki Might Boy
Or all of them...
